Wi-Fi and Ethernet setup

CommCommand can help you connect a new Pi-Star hotspot to your home network. You do not need to configure the hotspot's home Wi-Fi in advance.

New hotspot: temporary Wi-Fi access point

  1. Power on the hotspot with its prepared Pi-Star SD card and wait for it to boot.
  2. Open CommCommand's first-time setup wizard and choose the Wi-Fi access-point connection method.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your Windows computer to the hotspot's temporary wireless network.
  4. When prompted, provide the hotspot's SSH credentials so CommCommand can configure it.
  5. Choose your home Wi-Fi network and enter its password in CommCommand.
  6. Save the configuration and allow CommCommand to manage the network handover and reconnection.
  7. Confirm the hotspot is reachable on its new network before continuing with callsign and DMR setup.

New hotspot: Ethernet

  1. Connect the hotspot's Ethernet port to your router or network and power it on.
  2. Use CommCommand's first-time setup / discovery to find the hotspot.
  3. Sign in with the hotspot's SSH credentials and configure Wi-Fi if you want to use it wirelessly.
  4. Save, verify the wireless connection, then disconnect Ethernet only after the hotspot is reachable on Wi-Fi.

Already configured?

Use CommCommand's normal discovery and connection flow to find an existing hotspot on your network. First-time onboarding is not required.

Windows permission: Local Wi-Fi scanning may require Windows Location services permission. If nearby networks do not appear, check Settings → Privacy & security → Location. The exact controls may vary by Windows version.

If the connection is interrupted, give the hotspot time to reconnect and use Troubleshooting rather than repeatedly saving settings.
